3 Spooky Christmas Stories To Tell This Holiday Season
This Christmas, tell some spooky stories just like the Victorians did back in the day. I’ve got 3 creepy stories (in audio format to boot) for you just after the jump.

The Haunted Christmas Tree
It started with the tree. The perfect tree. Tall, full, and with a piney aroma that filled the room. The Johnsons had found it in the woods behind their home.
At first, everything was normal. They decorated it with twinkling lights, shiny ornaments, and a star on top. But that night, strange things began to happen.
Evan, their son, heard faint rustling in the living room. When he went to check, the ornaments were swinging—without a draft to explain it. The next morning, Mrs. Johnson found an old-fashioned bell on a branch. No one had placed it there.
As the days went on, the tree seemed alive. Ornaments vanished, replaced by eerie trinkets: a pocket watch, a child’s shoe, a tarnished locket. When Mrs. Johnson tried to remove the tree, a branch curled around her wrist like a hand.
On Christmas Eve, the family fled their cabin, leaving the tree behind. Neighbors later found the home empty, with the tree still standing, its branches bare. Some say it still grows in the woods, waiting for its next victim.
The Mistletoe Bride
Christmas Eve at a grand manor. Candles flickered, and snow blanketed the grounds. “Let’s play hide-and-seek!” the young bride suggested, darting off in her wedding gown.
The guests searched high and low but couldn’t find her. Hours turned into days. The festive cheer faded to worry. Eventually, the search ended.
Years later, during renovations, workers moved an old chest in the attic. When they pried it open, they found the bride’s skeletal remains, her hand clutching the edge of the chest, as if she’d tried to escape.
On cold Christmas Eves, visitors claim to hear faint giggles or see the shadow of a bride gliding through the halls. Her whisper echoes: “Find me.”
The Bell Ringer
In a quiet village, the old church bell ringer climbed the tower every Christmas Eve to ring in the holiday. But one year, as he ascended the stairs, he heard faint whispers.
At the top, the bells swayed gently though there was no wind. Shadows moved across the walls, and cold, hollow-eyed figures appeared. “Why do you disturb us?” they hissed.
The next morning, the bells tolled, but the ringer was gone. Villagers found only his hat and an icy handprint on the rope. On Christmas Eve, the bells still ring, and if you listen closely, you might hear his whispers for help.
I hope you enjoyed these (short) tales to tell around your fireplace this Christmas season. That’s one of my goals: To bring back spooky storytelling during the holidays, just like the Victorians did.
