Ghost Hunt Report: 108 Mile Ranch Follow-up

On September 17, 2026, Our Haunted Heritage returned to 108 Mile Ranch Heritage Site to capture more evidence of ghosts in the barn and Post House

Previous Investigation Background

The Our Haunted Heritage project returned to 108 Mile Ranch Heritage Site on Sept. 17, 2026 per a request from the site manager, Kelly Carnochan. Quite frankly, she wanted to have us back to check out if anything had changed since the site opened to ghost tours.

In our previous investigation, the team found activity in the Clydesdale Barn and Post House. In fact, the Post House encounter stopped the team in its tracks when an ITC device (Ovilus 5) reported “Hemataus,” the name of a demon.

Now, the team returns to see if the spirits are peeved about ghost tourism.

The Ghosts

The Clydesdale Barn (Barn) and Post House have multiple ghosts associated with the site haunting. This investigation focused on three spirits:

The Dude

The Dude ghost captured climbing the stairs to the catwalk in the clydesdale barn at 108 mile ranch heritage site
The Dude (perhaps Carl) captured climbing stairs in the Clydesdale Barn at 108 Mile Ranch

We captured the name, Carl, during the 2025 investigation. While we can’t prove that’s The Dude’s living name, it does give us a clue to follow-up on.

The Dude is notorious for his grumpy disposition. He haunts the catwalk on the barn’s second floor. Witnesses report a shadowy and cloaked figure leering at them. In other cases, the spirit seems to run down the catwalk as if to scare people away. Other witnesses report feeling depressed, sad or anxious in his presence.

The Dude’s Ritual

leave booze and cigarettes for the grumpy spirit known as the dude
If you want The Dude to be nice, leave an offering at the beginning of the catwalk like booze or cigarettes

I was lucky enough to witness the ritual associated with putting The Dude in a good mood. Per Kelly Carnochan, do the following when you enter the second floor:

  1. Introduce yourself
  2. State why you’re in the barn
  3. Walk up the stairs to the catwalk
  4. Place some liquor on it
  5. Place a cigarette on the handrail

That all helps The Dude know you have no ill intentions in the building. Per Carnochan, he won’t try to scare the bejeezus out of you during your visit.

Mary

Mary is a spirit that haunts the second floor of the Post House. Her bedroom has the iron in it. In life, many believe she may have worked for Agnes MacVee. MacVee owned the hotel that became the Post House. It’s not clear if Mary was a prostitute (the hotel was a brothel) or merely worked in the hotel.

Mary doesn’t mean to frighten anyone. You may hear her footsteps, smell her perfume, notice a light touch on your shoulder, or hear a woman’s voice (EVP) when she manifests.

Willy

Shadow detectors flared in Willy’s closet while investigating the Post House the following night

Willy is the second spirit haunting the second floor of the Post House. He tends to stick to a closet in his room. Some witnesses claim he becomes aggressive, while others have said he’s a nice chap. In my testing, shadow detectors flare in the closet right before he becomes active. He’s also thought to roam the second floor, and he’ll enter Mary’s room if he believes she’s being disrespected.

Clydesdale Barn

haunted clydesdale barn at 108 Mile Ranch heritage site

The barn has been a consistent, haunted hotbed at the heritage site for at least 5 years, if not longer. Multiple investigations have yielded fascinating paranormal experiences. In the last 6 months, the 108 Mile Ranch Heritage Site has allowed ghost tourism. That’s brought more attention to the barn … and especially the catwalk on the second floor.

Psychic walkthrough

Paisley saw a shadowy, robbed figure fly by her right here

Paisley walked through the second floor before we started the investigation (approx. 8 PM). She came in cold, meaning she didn’t know anything about the haunted location.

Overall, she didn’t pick up anything negative or worrisome until we got to the end of the catwalk. Then, something flew by her, and it made her nauseous. I recorded the walkthrough but he did not capture the entity on film. Afterwards, both Paisley and I felt a cold spot (-7℉) near the encounter.

Paisley described the entity as a long, hooded figure. It seemed to be stretched out. She mentioned it looked like the Grim Reaper, which does match witness reports of the dude. If you reference The Dude photo earlier in this report, you can see some similarities to her description.

Paisley remained downstairs by the main door while we ran experiments on the catwalk.

Technical walkthrough

The end of the catwalk was the target of our investigation

Around 5 PM, I went inside to get baseline readings. The technical walkthrough focused on the catwalk on the second floor, and how I’d set it up for several experiments. Overall, the catwalk was sturdy but prone to moving when semi trucks would drive by: The vibrations made it shake a little. The tin roof also made strange cracking sounds (perhaps the wind shifted the tin), bird talons scrapping the metal made strange sounds, and the wind could make eerie sounds as it passed through gaps in the wood siding.

There were no EMF anomalies captured: The MEL meter read 0.0 mG the entire time.

I worried the rapidly cooling temperatures at night might cause the building to contract and make strange sounds. That didn’t happen during the experiments.

Experiment: Catwalk Estes Method Session

Merle sensed someone standing next to him, and he became agitated the longer the Estes Method session went
Objective #1: To capture The Dude moving along the catwalk

Observations: Throughout the Estes Method session, I could feel some planks bend and vibrate. This motion didn’t always coincide with semi trucks driving outside. Merle felt a presence to his right during the session. That section of the catwalk was solid due to the extra support columns built for it. I couldn’t get the planks to budge by him. That was not the case in the center of the catwalk.

Outside, there was a lot of noise from the semi trucks passing by. You’d have to raise your voice to talk to the person near you.

The session only lasted 15 minutes. Merle became distressed so I thought it best to end the session and try something else. As we ended, Paisley came upstairs to report something unseen manipulating the motion-activated lights at the front of the barn.

Equipment: REM Pod, Tracerwire 2, Canon XA60, and Zoom shotgun microphone

Setup: Tracerwire 2 placed 10 feet in front of Merle with the REM pod at the far end. Infrared camcorder filming and Zoom mic used to capture EVP.

Results: Merle became increasingly agitated during the session. He heard screaming through Hex Box. He also felt a pressure to his right. However, the Tracerwire2 and REM Pod never flared. There were no EVPs captured by the microphones.

Objective #2: To capture or confirm The Dude’s living name

Observations: I asked for The Dude’s living name 5 times over the session, phrasing questions differently. Some examples include “What’s your name?” to “Last time, you told us your name is Carl. Is that true?”

Equipment: Camera microphone (EVP) and Hex Box (ITC)

Setup: Merle held the Hex Box as part of the Estes Method, and I had the camera’s shotgun mic pointed directly at him.

Results: A name was never given, and no EVPs captured on the catwalk.

Objective #3: To confirm The Dude flew by Paisley during her walkthrough

Observations: The team watched for shadowy figures or human-like figures under infrared light on the camera viewfinder. I asked about Paisley’s encounter 3 times during the session.

Equipment: Hex Box, Zoom shotgun mic and Canon XA60

Setup: Merle used the Hex Box to listen for ghostly voices, and the camcorder microphone pointed directly at Merle for EVP collection.

Results: We didn’t capture any data that would indicate The Dude flew by Paisley earlier in the evening. No EVPs or direct responses through the Hex Box.

Post House

The Post House is a former hotel and brothel. It’s also where Agnes MacVee allegedly murdered miners for their gold. While there isn’t much of a historical record to support the claims about MacVee, the Post House does have resident ghosts like Mary and Willy on the second floor. Another spirit, The Blue Man, is said to haunt a closet on the first floor.

Psychic Walkthrough

Paisley senses a presence on the second floor of the Post House

Paisley began her assessment of the building around 10 PM. The first floor seemed peaceful except for the closet in the living room area. She sensed a foul presence but couldn’t get a picture of the spirit or entity that might reside in it.

She didn’t know it, but t’s the closet where the Blue Man haunts.

Next, we went upstairs. Paisley immediately sensed a wrongness with the larger bedroom. It belongs to Mary, one of the aforementioned spirits. This room is one of the most active spots at the heritage site.

Paisley then went into the neighboring bedroom where Willy haunts. He hangs out in the closet, and people offer him booze as a gift. Willy is known to be protective of Mary, and he’s physically touched investigators before.

But today things seemed fine. Paisley didn’t sense much coming from this area.

Technical Walkthrough

The Blue Man haunts this closet on the first floor of the Post House

Earlier in the day, I went through the Post House to capture baseline readings and think about setting up experiments. The entire house registered as normal, meaning I didn’t get a beep of my EMF detectors. No odd temperature changes from corner to corner. No strange voices on my audio recorder. No eerie feelings. No goosebumps. No weird footstep sounds walking up the old stairs and along the wood floor. Just normal.

Experiment: The Sleepover

jake sleeps overnight in the post house and captured evidence
Jake prepares to sleep in Mary’s bedroom … and maybe capture some evidence
Objective: To determine if ghosts will engage with a strange person sleeping in the space

Experience: OK, I had no idea how this experiment would go. It’s an open-ended data capture test. I simply wanted to know if any activity will happen by sleeping in the Post House. As far as I knew, no one had slept in this building before.

I chose Mary’s bedroom because Paisley had sensed something in the room, and I knew it was an active area from last year’s documentary. The question was, “Would Willy come over to Mary’s room?”

The gear I selected would detect a visual presence, record audio, and signaled loudly. The alerts should wake me up in theory. But I sleep like a dead horse, so I wasn’t sure I’d even notice any activity.

I set up my gear and crawled into bed around midnight. I fell asleep around 1 AM, and the camera battery died around 1:30 AM.

Equipment: Canon XA60, Dead Bell, REM Pod and Zoom shotgun mic

Setup: The camera sat on the ironing board pointed at the bed. The sewing machine had the Dead Bell on it. A REM pod sat on the floor by the window facing the highway.

Results: The camera’s microphone captured 2 EVPs. The first one happened 45 minutes into the experiment, and the second happened 3 minutes later (48 minutes).

EVP #1

EVP: “Help!”, male voice, 45 minute timestamp

Hearing this made me think about the miners allegedly killed by MacVee. A man’s voice, screaming for help, before right before his death. It would make sense that the screaming could be a residual imprint on the area.

EVP #2

EVP: “Exhaling”, male voice, 48 minute timestamp

The exhale is interesting. It’s loud and right in front of the camera. This makes me think a male spirit might be frustrated that some strange guy is sleeping in the bed. Mary’s bed. Perhaps it’s Willy? Maybe he’s exasperated by this stranger camping out in the house? I don’t know, but I’d act like that if I couldn’t get someone out of the room.

At 1 hour and 16 minutes into the experiment, 2 loud knocks were captured on the microphones. It sounded like someone hit the ironing board where the camera sat. Of course, I didn’t hear them because I sleep like a dead horse.

But this makes me think Willy might be angry I’m there. Again, I don’t know if it’s a ghost or Willy or maybe even Mary.

Conclusion

Yours truly getting ready to document Merle’s Estes Method session in the barn

It’s fair to say we observed something happening in the barn, and we definitely got evidence in the Post House.

The barn is hard to explain, and that’s usually the case with negative energy (I’m thinking it’s more like emotions). The Dude tends to project feelings or vibes or something like emotional manipulation. Sure, he’s been seen before. We have the picture of him climbing the stairs but it’s his emotional signature that people really pick up on.

Over in the Post House, the gear captured some classic haunting signs. 2 EVPs and 2 loud knocks. I can’t prove it but it seems like Willy didn’t want me there. I’d say the male exhale and the 2 loud knocks next to the camera were made by him. At least, that’s my best guess.

But here’s the interesting bit about the EVPs and knocks … none of them had sound waves when I reviewed the video. The audio waves were flat in the video processor. Like they were never captured in the physical world. I think this is more of a display issue rather than the absence of a waveform. The wave may be too small to see. I’ll check on it, although …

That gives me something to research a bit more. Do ghostly voices really register a waveform on modern electronics?

So you might ask if I’d go back to 108 Mile Ranch Heritage Site … and my answer is a resounding yes. There’s more evidence to capture. More buildings have opened to the public. And a new one is coming soon.
