Investigating The Very Haunted Astoria, Oregon: Amy’s Spooky Travelogue

The Ghostly Club’s most enthusiastic, paranormal enthusiast, Amy Beal, planned an eerie legend trip in Cannon Beach. She wanted to hunt for Bandage Man. But let’s just say the route took a few twists and turns.
Astoria, a nearby town with a dark history, beckoned her to 2 other haunted destinations. And those haunts provided a few spectral shenanigans. Amy descended into Astoria’s underground and climbed the stairs of The Flavel House Museum.
Now, let’s follow Amy to her first haunted place, the Astoria underground …
Astoria Underground Ghost Tour (and Undercover Ghost Hunt)
Amy booked access to the Astoria Underground from a tour operating from Gulley’s Butcher Shop. It’s not a butcher shop any more; it’s a paranormal business now.
She entered through the main storefront with 3 others and browsed the merchandise for sale. When the tour began, the group went downstairs. The owner (who you saw in an episode of Ghost Adventures) took the group to the haunted hotspots.
Amy got to see artifacts from the people who lived in the underground. It was a horrible existence for some folks. The tour guide said that 3 people died down there. An older woman, an old man (who liked his whiskey), and a 10-year-old girl. However, no documentation provided evidence of their deaths.
Some of the ghostly activity reported includes whispers, phantom footsteps and objects moving around.
While waiting to ghost hunt, Amy captured an EVP. I’m not sure if it’s an older male for female. It sounds like a two-part response. Let’s take a listen and tell us what you hear in the comments:
But that’s not the only activity: Amy felt something gently brush her neck while trying to communicate with the little girl, AND she heard the phantom footsteps following her when she left.
Needless to say, Amy wished she could stay longer. The tour was supposed to run 60 minutes, but it went for 90 minutes. Amy would definitely go back.
Flavel House Investigation
Amy has been to the Flavel House before, and she didn’t feel anything uncanny about it. Just “nice house!” and left without much more to say about it.
This time, she came armed knowing more about the family. And she’s felt something in the house.
The docent (an educator or guide with deep knowledge of an exhibit) didn’t want to discuss the supernatural lore about the house. She seemed uneasy and deflected questions about ghosts and hauntings.
To Amy, that meant there were ghosts and a haunting present.
Amy learned this about The Flavels: All but one of the Flavel family died in the house. Their causes of death were old age or disease (pretty common for the time). The house also remained with family until the last of the Flavels, Nellie, died in the house in 1933.
If you’re looking for a ghost-story reason for the Flavels to linger, the house certainly fits. It remained a family home for decades after Captain Flavel’s death. Of course, loving a house doesn’t prove anyone haunts it. So …

Cannon Beach & The Search For Bandage Man
You’re probably asking what happened with Bandage Man, the whole reason for the trip? Well, the Bandage Man didn’t show up but those roads were misty, foggy and spooky at night. The fog and mist would keep Bandage Man hidden until he jumped into your car.
The urban legend usually makes him the victim of a logging or industrial accident, although the story changes depending on who’s telling it.

Checking Out Goonies Filming Locations
There was one last pit stop …
Since Amy was in Astoria, she had to check out some iconic filming locations!
The County Jail isn’t haunted but it was used in the movie, The Goonies, a classic kids movie from the 1980s, AND it was used in Kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger. So, here’s a photo album for you.
