A Spooky-Lite Night Out in Vancouver
Before Merle and I went to Powell River, he took me around downtown Vancouver, and we had some good eats and drinks at a spooky pub. Get the scoop after the jump.
Inside Arcana, A Very Spooky Pub
Merle had reservations for us to get some eats at Arcana. It definitely gave spooky vibes, from the exterior to interior. Outside, it looks like a psychic’s storefront. On the inside, it clobbers you with a Ouija board, black magic, Lovecraft theme.

As for the eats, we got a series of small plates to share. They included:
- Ouija Board (a charcuterie board)
- Belly of the Beast (5 pork belly bites)
- Cauldron of Olives
- Croque Sorciére (grilled ham-and-cheese sandwiches)
A Walking Tour of Gastown

After dinner, Merle took me around the Gastown neighborhood in Vancouver. He told me about gruesome murders, bloody alleys, and mafia hangouts. Those alleys were something to see: They looked like something out of the TV series, Supernatural. Now, that could be true since SPN filmed in-and-around Vancouver.
It’s Dessert Time

Ok, I always like to cap off the night (while travelling) with some ice cream, and Merle knew where to take me. I forgot the name of the ice cream parlor, but it had like 300 flavors. IYKYK.
And it wasn’t your usual type of flavors.
Behind the counter, you found a Chinese assortment; standard flavors for Canada or the States (think strawberry, vanilla, etc.); Indian flavors (like gulab); and, a massive amount of sorbettos.
I went straight to the Chinese section and got a scoop of red bean and another scoop of durian with mango boba. Yum! Note: This place only takes cash, no credit or debit.
Anyway, the next day, we left for Powell River for an extra-spooky adventure at The Old Courthouse Inn.
