The Spirit Haunting My House May Not Be What It Seems To Be …
In this continuation of the Powell River hitchhiker ghost, I’ve uncovered what I believe to be a twist. And the ghost isn’t what I think it is. Get the scoop after the jump.
The Haunting Continues

Remember that creepy ghost in his tighty-whities? He’s back.
But this time, the encounter wasn’t as scary.
I took 5 of my dogs (2 Saint Bernards and 3 pitties) to the backfield to run around on a sunny afternoon. That’s something rare for early April in the Pacific Northwest. The field is 1.5 acres and fully fenced, so the kids can run as much as they want. It was pretty uneventful until I looked up from picking up … you know … the doggie business … and I saw him.
The old man. This time wearing a tank top and these brown worker pants. I think they had to be from the 1920s or 30s. In old photos of the area, I remember the farmhands wearing thick, brown pants. And these seemed to fit that era.
The dogs didn’t notice him. They kept frollicking around the field. The old man ghost just walked casually around the trees lining the fence. From one end of the lot to the other. He never even looked over at me.
And then he went through the red cedar planks and … he was gone.
Another Creepy Encounter

There was a third encounter the next day.
Again, I had the fur kids (all 7 of them) in the backyard, not the back fence. But it’s similar with a fully fenced yard and plenty of grass for the doggos to run around. I stood on the patio, giving the fur kids some fresh water, when I looked up and saw the old man standing next to the steps in front of me.
He just stared at the dogs tumbling around on the grass. He didn’t move. He didn’t say a word. He just watched them play.
As I walked down the few steps and turned to face him, he was gone. The dogs never even noticed him.
At this point, I had a realization that maybe something didn’t follow me home from Powell River. Maybe the ghost had been here all the time. Waiting for the right time.
I Think I May Have An …

… anniversary ghost haunting my property.
Now, there are some clues I should’ve paid close attention to. First, the hauntings came on suddenly without out any signs slowly developing over time. These manifestations turned off-and-on, like something triggered them. Second, the clothing is a dead giveaway to the era of the spirit’s life. I’m thinking it’s the 1920s because the closing matches the farmers’ clothing at the time.
You see, the land my house sits on used to be farms from the 1920s to 1960s. It was plotted (I’m not sure if that’s the word I want to use) in 1925. So, it makes me think this may have been the original owner or maybe someone who worked on the farm. And that all happened 100 years ago.
An anniversary ghost make sense. I can look back at the property records and see if an owner died on the land in April 1925. If so, I think the mystery is solved. If not, I’ve got some additional sleuthing ahead.

I think I’ll write an explainer post about anniversary ghosts. There’s little good info out there on the InterWebs … and it bothers me that’s the case. Look for it in a few days.
