When we think of ghosts, we think about the spirits of the dead returning to haunt the living. However, there could be another reason for that haunting: It could be someone using astral projection.

Note: I won’t detail the different techniques for projecting in this post. I’ll tell you how to tell if it’s a ghost or a skimmer, a person who uses astral projection. I’ll include links to Wikipedia or other well-regarded sites with more in-depth information for you.

Astral Projection Background

Let’s start with the basic stuff.

The astral plane is a higher plane of existence, where you can travel through time and space. It’s thought to be separate from Heaven and Hell. Time and space are meaningless there: You can travel to the past or far into the future, and only a few moments have passed on earth.

To reach the astral plane, you learn to eject your rational mind, the subtle body, from your physical body through one of six techniques, which I’ll get to in a few paragraphs.

The astral plane has many beings living in it. Some beings are hostile to visitors, so you may need some precautions. Most of them are not for mere mortals to know.

When you enter the astral plane, it could morph into any type of environment. Sometimes, you can control it, or one of the entities changes it. It seems the astral plane is in flux and it’s different for everyone.

There is also a lower plane, one that’s just outside our material plane. It’s called the etheric plane and it’s very similar to our world. The etheric plane is a lower-level of the astral plane. This is where most skimmers visit other people. The etheric plane uses the same time and space we live in. This means the haunting activities happen in real-time, unlike the astral plane.

When you travel to the etheric plane, your body can get hurt. If you run into an evil spirit and it attacks your subtle body, the damage passes to your physical body. You could wake up from your travels and find bruises and scratches on your body. It’s difficult to destroy your subtle body, but you could get knocked back into your physical body if it gets hurt badly. No one has died from an attack on their subtle body.

When you eject your subtle body, you shouldn’t worry about finding your physical body. Some people talk about a silver cord connecting your subtle body to your physical body, but others say it’s just a figment of the imagination for rookie skimmers. Anyway, the important thing to know is that your subtle body will always find its way back.

Who Can Project Their Souls to the Astral and Etheric Planes?

First, everyone can use astral projection. It’s not a genetic or psychic ability a few people have. You can train your mind to do it. The most common way is by guided meditation.

Some people may find it easier to project because of past experiences, natural talent and/or religious beliefs. Those who may find it easier include:

• Lucid dreamers
• Taoists (because of their meditative techniques)
• People who have had near-death-experiences (NDEs)
• Aura readers (they can look into the etheric plane)

How Can You Tell If a Ghost Is Really a Skimmer?

Intelligent hauntings and skimmers are easy to confuse, but there are some clues. You have to pay very close attention to the details of your investigation and compare it to this list of skimmer activity.

1. There is no EMF surge with astral projection
2. There is no change in the ambient temperature
3. There is no EVP captured although you hear the whispers
4. You can capture the skimmer with digital photography and there will be no signs of orbs, mists or other ghostly signs in the pic
5. Infrared cameras should pick up the skimmer as a well-defined body silhouette
6. Clairvoyants can see the skimmer and give vivid details about their appearance (height, weight, hair color, eye color, clothing, etc.)
7. Skimmers will not respond to protection prayers and other ghostly protection techniques
