Jake’s Attempt To Summon Bloody Mary

Way back in 2013, I might … emphasis on might … have contacted Bloody Mary. It was February 2013, and I rented Suite 1201 in the south tower of the Congress Plaza Hotel (Chicago, IL). That room is supposed to be extra haunted. So, it seemed like a good spot to try to summon Bloody Mary.

I only spent one night at the hotel, so I needed to use my time wisely. Earlier in the night, I went ghost hunting with my BFF, Saleen. We did capture some activity everywhere in the hotel. We we got back around 2 AM, that’s when I tried the Bloody Mary ritual.

Inside the bathroom, I set up some ghost hunting gadgets around the area:

  • A REM pod in the bathtub
  • An audio recorder on the sink
  • Saleen holding an infrared camera in the door frame
  • A digital thermometer on top the toilet tank

If anything happened, surely one of the gadgets would flare, and Saleen could snap a picture. After all, we were out to get haunting evidence related to the hotel.

I stood in front of the sink and lit a candle I brought with me. Then, Saleen turned off the light switch. The bathroom didn’t plunge into darkness: there were tiny lights above the shower. So, I’d say we experienced voluminous shadows but not full darkness.

Then, I nodded to Saleen, and she raised the infrared camera to focus on me. I said that terrible name, Bloody Mary, 5 times (that’s the ritual I grew up with in Wisconsin) and blew out the candle.

And then … silence.

I remember hearing a clock ticking in the hallway. It was so quiet in the suite. And about 30 seconds after blowing out the candle …

The REM pod flared in the tub!

Saleen snapped a picture of the area while I turned to see … nothing.

There was nothing. Nothing behind me. Nothing next to me. Nothing in the mirror.

But when we reviewed the photos on the camera …

There was a grey, shadowy, human-sized silhouette surrounding the REM pod.
