NEW Custom-Made Portal For April Ghost Hunt
We got a new portal that has some serious improvements over the ones you find on other ghost hunting equipment sites. Check it out after the jump!
Introducing The MerlePortal
MerlePortal ITC Device Description
The MerlePortal is a portal, which is an ITC device that uses radio waves, that cleans up static and amplifies the voices you hear. These are common ghost-hunting devices that you’ve seen on ghost hunting TV shows like Paranormal Lockdown and Portals To Hell. In this case, it comes with upgraded noise-cancelling switch as well as a better reverb unit. These components make sure the voices it captures sound crisp and clear: There’s no guessing what was said.
Mike Merle, the engineer, made it for Our Haunted Heritage, the documentary part of Ghostly Activities. He’s made other ghost hunting gadgets like a REM pod and spirit box.
How To Use A Portal On A Ghost Hunt
In my case, I use it for the North Head Technique, which reminds me to write a post about it, so you can use it, too. The North Head Technique is a modern take on a seance. we don’t have a medium on our team to speak to spirits, so I have to use technology. So, I use the portal for ghosts to ‘talk’ to me. The high-end reverb and noise cancellation paddles (from Sonicake) really help clean up the radio frequencies. It’s easier to hear what’s said.
An Additional Thing To Know
The spirit box you choose impacts the sound quality. For example, I have a ‘J’ Portal from Gotcha Ghost, and I use an SBox with it. The SBox is loud, and you can increase the portal’s volume by adjusting the SBox volume. My biggest gripe is the static noise still comes through the portal even when I turn up the noise cancellation.
However, I use a plain ol’ PSB-7 with the MerlePortal. Then, I adjust the volume on the MerlePortal, not the PSB-7. That clears up the static just fine while keeping a lower noise cancellation level.
I’ve also tested the MerlePortal with a PSB-11 and PSB-7 Pro, and the regular spirit box (PSB-7) still works the best.
You’ll get to see the MerlePortal in action at our upcoming ghost hunt in Oregon next month. In case you were wondering, this portal isn’t for sale. It’s a gadget we made to use for our own ghost hunts. Sorry about that folks.
Note: Jake used his own money to buy the gadgets mentioned in this article, so there’s not expectation of a positive review for the manufacturer. His teammate, Mike Morin, built the Merle Portal as part of the Our Haunted Heritage documentary team.
